David Lynch is one of those film directors that you can't help but to
hear about in film school or in any circle of movie buffs but though I
have tried to find all the fantastic qualities that my friends and
classmates find in this film, it is something that I just can't see for
myself. That is why I have to say: I DO NOT LIKE THIS FILM. Strangely
and maybe speaking to the greatness of this filmmaker I do not like
this film for all my usual reason. For one, the movie IS unique and
imaginative. I can see in the film that the David Lynch was trying to
say something and not just please the masses; finally the acting and
cinematography were suburb, but in the end I was left exhausted.
Mulholland Dr. sets its self up just like any mystery film and this
engages the typical viewer to try and solve that mystery. But in the
last 30 minutes (when the movie starts to fall apart for me) I'm still
looking for answers while David Lynch has gone on to something that is
just beyond my rational mind. I've been told that I'm not innocent
enough when I watch David Lynch films and maybe that's true, but when I
compare Mulholland Dr. to The Straight Story (the only David Lynch film
I've ever loved) I tend to believe that David Lynch is still
experimenting with the way he tells stories on film and being a true
artiest cares little for what he losses in the wake of his creation.
